The Met Gala is one of the biggest fashion events of the year with celebrities and designers paying upward of $75,000 to attend. While the media buzzes with opinions on who nailed the theme and who ‘didn’t understand the assignment,’ it's a major opportunity for fashion brands to boost their sales and brand recognition.
Erin Allweiss, co-founder of PR agency No. 29, emphasizes, “When it comes to the Met Gala, we know it’s not just about the event itself, but about the marketing, social amplification, celebrity and concentrated attention on this single red carpet.”
In recent years, a new metric called "Media Impact Value" (MIV) has emerged, quantifying the monetary value of each post, interaction, or article to gauge its influence and contribution to brand performance across various platforms and regions.
Take Rihanna, for example. At last year’s Met Gala, she generated one of the highest afterparty media impact value (MIV) figures of the Met night: $205,000. This single look eclipsed the combined MIVs of all brand-hosted afterparties. And that was just the afterparty.
Let’s just say the ROI of a good ‘fit can be pretty substantial.

New series alert! We’re running a new investor-focused series (a.k.a. a YOU-focused series), where we dive deeper into the stories of investment strategy, personal finance, and wealth creation from our FrontFundr community.
Kicking off the series is FrontFundr’s own, Trieste Reading. Head of Campaigns and Marketing, Trieste gives us her money story and how her journey with FrontFundr has led to holding 7% of her portfolio in private equity.
On creating an investment philosophy: I find companies that I love, have great leadership teams, and strong competitive advantages or moats - just something that sets them apart. Being a marketer by trade, I also look for companies with an undeniably strong brand. And when I invest, I have the mentality that I’m going to be a shareholder of this company for at least ten years.
On having an overarching money strategy: Paying off student loans, building an emergency fund, and contributing to retirement accounts like my RRSP and TFSA laid the groundwork for my investment journey. I find that I can get quite caught up in work so I started automating much of my savings and investing which proved to be a game-changer for me.
On a lesson learned: While it’s important to buy shares for a good value, I think it’s almost more important to learn when to sell an investment. You need to avoid being influenced by herd behaviour through the ups and downs of the market and to not get emotionally attached to the companies you invest in. Otherwise, you risk not selling when you probably should. One investment, I could have gotten a 7817% return which is still incomprehensible to me.
