✍ What’s on our mind?

The 2024 VMAs were more than just a dazzling display of pop culture—think of them as a masterclass in branding, innovation, and seizing the spotlight. This milestone anniversary was brimming with nostalgic callbacks and fresh takes; as Taylor Swift, Megan Thee Stallion, and Chappell Roan lit up the stage, they were also teaching us a thing or two about the world of investing and entrepreneurship. Don’t believe it? Keep reading.

In the fast-paced world of entrepreneurship, making a splash can be crucial. Think about how Sabrina Carpenter’s alien-themed performance and Katy Perry’s throwback medley captured everyone’s attention. It’s a reminder that being memorable often means breaking the mold.

The VMAs’ 40th anniversary was a celebration of both past and present, illustrating how legacy and innovation can coexist. As MTV celebrated four decades of VMAs, the show took us on a whirlwind tour of its storied past, featuring clips of iconic moments: Madonna and Britney’s infamous kiss, Beyoncé’s pregnancy announcement, and Michael Jackson’s unforgettable 1994 appearance.

So next time you watch the VMAs and marvel at the performances, remember: that the same principles apply to entrepreneurship and investing. Be bold, be innovative, and most importantly, be unforgettable.

☀️ Investor Feature

As part of our investor series, we interviewed Head of Campaigns and Marketing, Trieste Reading on her money story and how her journey with FrontFundr has led to holding 7% of her portfolio in private equity.

🌟 On discovering equity crowdfunding: “My journey with FrontFundr began with a deep-seated excitement about being my own investor. While pursuing my Masters in The Netherlands, I came across an equity crowdfunding platform in Europe, and the idea of playing the role of a shark in the startup world intrigued me. When I returned home, I found FrontFundr, Canada’s leading equity crowdfunding platform, and made my first investment in The Very Good Butchers, a plant-based meat company from Vancouver Island.”

💡 On investment strategy and long-term goals: “My investment philosophy is centered around long-term growth. I’ve always focused on companies I love, with great leadership and strong competitive advantages. I have a diverse, six-figure portfolio with various asset classes, including public equities, ETFs, registered accounts, and real estate investments. Notably, 7% of my portfolio is in private equity, primarily through FrontFundr.”

📊 On knowing when to sell: “The investment that brought me to FrontFundr, The Very Good Butchers, became the top-performing IPO of 2020 globally. I purchased shares at $0.12 and saw them rise to $9.50. While I didn’t sell at the peak, the experience taught me that knowing when to sell is as crucial as knowing when to buy. It’s about maintaining emotional intelligence and not being swayed by market fluctuations.”
