✍ What’s on our mind?
In case you blinked and missed it, the hockey universe witnessed an incredible event— the Edmonton Oilers clawing their way into the coveted Stanley Cup finals. Picture this: the last time a Canadian team graced the finals was back in 2021, and before that, it was a distant memory from 2007. As for Canada’s last triumphant cup hoist? Well, that goes back to 1993. Yeah, we’re long overdue for another win.
The Oilers’ return to the Stanley Cup finals marks their first appearance since 2006. But many still reminisce about their four-cup streak during the glorious 1980s rounding out their reign with a fifth win in 1990.
But hockey is a large part of Canada for more than just goals and penalties — it’s about dollars and cents. During the 2022 NHL playoffs, when the Oilers clashed with their inter-provincial rivals, the Calgary Flames, in what was deemed a monumental “Battle of Alberta,” Edmonton restaurants saw a 233% surge in spending in Game 3, according to a study by Moneris.
Rogers Place is also considered one of the most prosperous arenas in the NHL and in Edmonton, considered the heart of the ICE district, the sports and entertainment hub of the city, second largest in North America, only behind Hudson Yards in New York.
$2B in investment turned a vacant space of parking lots into the ICE District including multiple levels of retail with shopping and dining, office space, a casino, residential condos, and a JW Marriott hotel, not to mention a 69-floor tower for condos and office space.
So really, what we’re trying to say, is hockey is more than just a game and the ICE District is more than just a place; it’s a chapter in both Canadian hockey and business history.
Are you cheering the Edmonton Oilers on to victory?Let's take a poll - just for fun. |

“As immigrants, we understand the need when people want to have products from their home countries. We started as a B2C business to serve this demand. During COVID, we started to receive orders from restaurants, and from B2C, we were able to grow into B2B, providing these restaurants with dry, imported goods. In a survey with the Business Chamber of Montreal, we found that 900 ethnic restaurants in Montreal were creating the demand. This is where we saw the opportunity to go beyond dry food to provide frozen food and fresh products.”
