✍ Industry spotlight

In recent decades, the investment landscape has seen a huge shift, with more companies opting to stay private longer. Traditionally, companies would grow with private investors before going public, and then allow retail investors to share in their success when they hit the public markets. But now, the landscape is changing.

With private market assets skyrocketing from $600 billion in 2000 to over $13 trillion by mid-2023, companies find it easier to remain private.

So, what does this mean for average Canadian investors? With companies remaining private, only affluent individuals or large institutions can access their growth potential. While pension funds and some retail investment vehicles offer indirect access to private markets, the broader investing public still misses out on the early growth stages of promising companies.

As private investing continues to dominate, platforms like FrontFundr must bridge this gap, enabling more Canadians to share in the success of our homegrown businesses.

By democratizing access to private investments, we can ensure that the economic benefits of our entrepreneurial successes remain within Canada, fueling growth and prosperity for all.

✍ What’s on our mind?

Soccer is more than just a game; it's a booming investment opportunity, thanks to private capital shaking up the global landscape.

The pandemic left many clubs financially strained but because of firms like CVC Capital Partners and Blackstone pouring billions into European leagues, they have reinvigorated the sport.

Take CVC's $2.1 billion investment in La Liga, for example. This funding has sparked stadium renovations and youth academy expansions, promising long-term growth and a richer fan experience.

This trend is spreading worldwide, with investment firms competing for stakes in media rights and club ownership. Firms like 777 Partners are leveraging multi-club ownership to share data and best practices, boosting each club’s performance.

But it’s not just for the big players. Every day retail investors are getting in on the action too. With sports franchises outpacing the stock market, soccer offers an exciting new way to diversify your portfolio and enjoy steady returns.

Just ask Ryan Reynolds who owns stakes in not just one, but two soccer teams.

A standout example for retail investors is the TSS Rovers in Canada. In 2022, they became the first supporter-owned club through a FrontFundr campaign, raising $261K from 434 investors.

Their success highlights the power of community and retail investment in shaping soccer’s future.
