✍ What’s on our mind?

Social media is public, investing is personal; so where do these two intersect? The recent surge in GameStop shares might offer some insight into that.

Just this week, GameStop skyrocketed again after the same trader who drove the 2021 meme stock frenzy returned to social media.

Keith “Roaring Kitty” Gill took to social media for the first time in three years on Sunday night and that was seemingly enough to reignite the frenzy with GameStop shares up nearly 70% as of Monday morning, the highest price since 2022.

While this type of market mania isn’t typically encouraged, it prompts an interesting question about the role of social media and peer influence in investing - can it be used as a force of good?

We think it can be.

But not in a ‘to the moon’ way. 🙄

We believe that investing can and should be democratized through sharing knowledge. Investing should be inclusive, allowing everyone to participate and benefit, and sharing knowledge can be a huge part of this journey.

Everyone learns about money in one way or another whether through reading books, following financial influencers, or sometimes even just through trial and error.

As part of our new investor series, we want to share those stories to make this knowledge more accessible. If you haven’t already checked out our first feature in the series, FrontFundr’s own, Trieste Reading, we may be biased but we think it’s pretty great.

  • Rea is reading: about how Toronto is the 13th wealthiest city in the world with 18 billionaires living in the city. Keeping that in mind for Halloween trick or treating.

  • Trieste is reading: how the tides could be changing for homebuyers with the rising availability of properties (we’re talking pre-pandemic levels).

  • Jyoti is reading: on how to get promoted at work. According to TikTok, being good at your job is out.

Maxwell Nicholson and Brandon Beavis | Blossom

🕰️ On the early days: I’m not a huge believe in the ‘aha’ moment. I think you find the problem you want to solve and it’s really about launching fast, failing fast, and constantly iterating until you find something that works - a product market fit.

🚀 On leading a team: A true leader should not be the final decision-maker in everything. We all operate in our own realms with confidence and trust. What happens is that you all have your engines fired up and gears turning and the next thing you know, you have a fully running machine.

👥 On raising with FrontFundr: I couldn't think of a more perfect way to raise capital. We are literally a social network for investors so the community is a huge aspect. Our community is what makes our app so special. I'm so proud and honored to have nearly 1000 of our users – almost 1% of all of our users – as shareholders in the company.
